FilmAid Reaches Over One Million

Dear Friends,
During my recent visit to our programs in Kenya and Tanzania, I was struck, as always, by the boundless determination, hope and optimism of the refugees with whom FilmAid works. At this moment, many of our programs in Kakuma, Kenya are focused on helping Southern Sudanese refugees prepare for repatriation now that the Comprehensive Peace Agreement has been signed. I attended FilmAid screenings and workshops for Sudanese refugees on topics as diverse as civic education, landmine awareness and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse—truly a testimony to the power of film to effectively address vital issues in virtually any circumstance. One particularly successful program helps Sudanese women explore the unique role they will play in peace-building when they return to their homeland. And that’s only the beginning of how FilmAid, through your generous support, is changing lives. We are proud to have reached record audience numbers over the past year and to have been able to participate in special relief efforts in Sri Lanka and Baton Rouge—please read on to learn more about these projects and how you can help us make a difference through your generous contributions.

This past year, FilmAid International broke the seven-digit mark with total cumulative audiences of over 1,000,000! This inspirational milestone is a direct result of your generous support of our programs, which enabled FilmAid to hold almost 600 screenings, a 23% increase over the number of screenings we held in 2004.

In 2005, FilmAid screenings reached:

739,845 total audience members for HIV/AIDs screenings
669,958 total audience members for conflict resolution screenings
